Syria committed to international resolutions: foreign ministry
Syria-Israel, Politics, 7/7/2005
Syria on Wednesday underlined keenness to continue work and cooperation with the United Nations and respect to its resolutions.
"Syria is still committed to cooperate with the United Nations, respecting its resolutions and fully adhering to just and comprehensive peace based on the UN relevant resolutions, particularly resolutions 242, 338 and 497, Land-for Peace formula which ensure the Israeli full withdrawal from the occupied Syrian Golan to the line of June 4th, 1967," a statement for the Foreign Ministry said.
"Israel is going ahead in its policies to Judaize the land and cancel the Syrian Arab identity of the occupied Golan, distort the Golan citizens history and civilization including the destruction of buildings, stealing ruins to falsify historical facts and substitute Arab learning courses with Hebrew ones," Director of International Organizations and Conference Department at the Foreign Ministry Faisal Hamwi presented the statement to the UN Special Committee to investigate Israeli practices affecting the Human Rights of the Palestinian people and other Arabs of the occupied Territories, Chaired by Prasad Kariyawasam. The statement added that the Golan citizens under occupation suffer from the lack of medical services, where Israel imposes high fees for medical check-ups or medical insurance.
It said that Israeli authorities deliberately distort nature on Golan through cutting trees, setting fire in forests, planting mines, and transforming fertile soil from the Golan to the Israeli settlements.
The statement reviewed the Israeli policy of settlements expansion on the lands of Golan at the expense of occupied Syrian territories, water resources, and stolen crops.
