Egypt, PA to sign gas agreement

The Egyptian government and the Palestinian Authority will sign within weeks another memorandum of understanding to pump Egyptian gas into the Palestinian territories. Chairman of the Palestinian Energy and natural Authority Azzam Al-Shawwa said that the Egyptian gas would replace the costly fuel in Gaza's main power plant, slashing costs by 50 %.
Shawwa told reporters in Gaza that a memo was signed on June 29 to use the Arab gas pipeline running through Egyptian territory, develop the Palestinian marine gas field, pump Palestinian gas into the northern Egyptian city of Al-Arish for liquefaction to be exported later to the United States and Europe.
