Four Polisario military officials in Tindouf rebel against Defense Minister
Morocco-Algeria, Politics, 7/2/2005
Four Polisario military officials announced Friday their rebellion against Ould Al Bouhali, "defense Minister" of the Polisario Front self-proclaimed republic "SADR," reliable sources told MAP.
The four officials are Biadillah Ibrahim, alias Krikaou, commander of the second military zone, Mohamed Ali Sidi Al Bachir, commander of the 1st military zone, Ould mohamed Yahdih, commander of the 7th military zone and Abdellah Ould Moulay Ahmed Baba, commander of the 4th military zone.
The four commanders accused Ould Al Bouhali of corruption and theft and of gathering wealth in detriment of the misery and suffering of the populations sequestered in Tindouf camps (southern Algeria).
According to the same sources, the four commanders also decided to stop dealing with Ould Al Bouhali because he is "not Sahrawi but Algerian, which make him heedless of the fate of thousands of people who are sequestered in the camps, suffering from blockade and different kinds of oppression and marginalization" contrary to rebel leaders who are all from Moroccan Sahrawi tribes.
The same source noted that head of the Polisario separatists, Mohamed Abdelaziz, had recourse to mediation to solve this problem, seeking the assistance of Abdelkader Taleb Omar, "SADR's Prime Minister."
Ould Al Bouhali considers, however, the initiative of conciliation of Abdelkader Taleb Omar "a conspiracy against him and the leadership of the Front" particularly in this juncture marked by "uprising, and protests staged by the populations sequestered in the camps."
The same source noted that some inhabitants in Lahmada camps compare the protests in Tindouf camps with the "uprising of 1988."
After he was informed that the sequestered populations intend to stage sit-in before the headquarter of the presidency, Mohamed Abdelaziz decided to travel to Libya under the pretext of taking part in consultations to prepare for the African Union summit.
