Differences threaten Sudanese coalition
Sudan, Politics, 7/2/2005
The secretariat of the Democratic National Coalition in Sudan deplored what it had said "the control of four members on the proceeding of matters in this coalition," in a step that threatens a split to occur in its lines led by the communist party.
In a statement, the secretariat accused what it called the four groups of trying to obstruct internal reforms of the coalition by disseminating chaos and disorder. The parties are the democratic federations, the Baath, the group of the African parties ( Busab) and another was from the communist party.
The statement also played down the Cairo Agreement which was signed on June 18 and considered that it only reflects a small portion of what has been debated. The statement said that other members of the secretariat expressed their regret over this attitude, demanding the correction of the situation, and not to ignore the coalition's institutions inside the country.
The coalition of the leadership which is stationed in Asmara, Eritrea, announced it will return to Khartoum only after settling pending or postponed files of the Cairo Agreement.
