NGO calls for probe into death of young Sahrawi
Morocco-Algeria, Politics, 6/30/2005

An NGO defending the populations sequestered in the Polisario-controlled Tindouf camps (southwestern Algeria) has called for conducting a probe into the murder of a young Sahrawi who died under torture.

The Association for lifting the blockade on populations sequestered in Tindouf camps said Didih Ouled Bamba Ouled Yaacoub "died of torture," calling on his Ouled Tidrarin tribe to "struggle for the elucidation of the circumstances of his murder."

The NGO also called in a release for probing into the "forced disappearances and arbitrary arrests of our families," pointing fingers at the Algerian military intelligence and security elements of the Polisario.

The NGO called for lifting the blockade on the populations sequestered in Tindouf camps, denouncing Polisario's "intimidation" of human rights associations to prevent them from unveiling the suffering of the populations in the camps.

Witnesses said, on Wednesday, that Polisario leaders prevented inhabitants of the camps from demonstrating against their dramatic situation.

According to the same source, the Polisario leaders and the Algerian intelligence are trying to suppress the legitimate demands of the populations in the camps.

Witnesses said a campaign is being launched in the camps to look for some 400 young people who refused to integrate the military service imposed on all the populations in the camps.

On the other hand, people from Aousserd camp in Tindouf were violently repressed as they were demonstrating against their poor living conditions.
