Saudi Arabia protests a bridge linking between UAE, Qatar
Saudi Arabia-Gulf, Politics, 6/30/2005

Saudi mass media said that the kingdom of Saudi Arabia will complain before Qatar and the United Arab Emirates over a project to build a bridge linking the two states on the ground it passes over its territorial waters.

The Saudi papers quoted the Saudi minister of the interior Nayef Bin Abdul Aziz as saying that his country will propose a warrant of complaint to the government of Qatar and the UAE, describing the construction of the bridge as "unacceptable " because it will run in the Saudi territorial waters.

The proposed bridge is just one item of difference between Saudi Arabia and the UAE which seeks to amend the border treaty finalized in 1974, just a short time after the foundation of the UAE.

Two weeks earlier, the Saudi minister of the interior visited Abu Dhabi to hold talks about this agreement, according to which UAE gave up Saudi Arabia a land strip linking between UAE and Qatar.

Earlier this month, Prince Nayef denied a report said that the two sides discussed also a request by UAE to make use of its own part in al-Shebeih oil field which is situated on their own joint borders.
