Intifadah in 'Polisario' Aousserd camp unveils inhabitants 'enough is enough' sentiment
Algeria-Morocco, Politics, 6/29/2005
An "enough is enough" Intifadah shook this past Saturday the separatist "Polisario" Aousserd camp in Tindouf, South-West Algeria, staged by the camps' inhabitants who challenged the diktat of their so-called leaders and denounced the dreary conditions they are forced to live in, witnesses of the upheaval told the Moroccan News Agency MAP on Tuesday.
The demonstration, during which protesters held high banners voicing their claims and requests, was quelled by "Polisario" leadership which circled the camp and cracked down on the inhabitants who suffered untold violence, the witnesses said.
The separatist "Polisario" lured thousands of Sahrawis in the Tindouf camps with false propaganda after Morocco retrieved in 1975 its Southern provinces, known as the Sahara, under the Madrid accords, signed by Morocco, Spain and Mauritania. The misled Sahrawis have been living since then ordeals at the hands of "Polisario" mercenaries who are keeping them sequestrated and preventing them to return to their homeland Morocco.
The same sources added "Polisario" also cut all phone lines to isolate the rebelling inhabitants, stressing that violence was so severe that even those who were close to the "Polisario" wish openly now to return to Morocco.
On Tuesday, The situation was tense and Algerian forces took over from "Polisario" elements completely overwhelmed by the magnitude of the events. The Algerian forces sealed the camp and banned any vehicle and people circulation. They also launched an enquiry on the missing from "Polisario" storehouses of military vehicles and arms and arrested several people in this respect. The same weekend, an organisation grouping the malcontents in the Tindouf camps handed out leaflets denouncing the practices of the "Polisario" and calling it to step down for not having solved problems in the camps and for misappropriating the international humanitarian aid.
Reliable sources said the organization is calling to stage a demonstration on July 1st in front of the so-called "presidency," but Algerian security intervened to prevent the organisation of the protest by arresting several people in the camps.
