Explosions in Karkouk, al-Maseeb, demonstrations in al-Samawah

In one attack in Iraq, unidentified gunmen killed a leader in the Iraqi police called Muhammad Shamekh and other persons when they opened fire at them in al-Doura to the south of Baghdad.

At least three persons were killed including one policeman and other 17 injured including four security members when one suicide bomber wearing an explosive belt detonated himself in one of the hospitals of al-Maseeb town to the south of Baghdad on Tuesday evening. Police sources said that the suicide bomber, disguised in a police uniform, detonated himself at the hospital's information desk.

In Karkouk in the north of Iraq, one booby trapped car went off in the procession of the traffic director in the city. This resulted in killing two security men and injuring six persons including the director of the traffic department Maj. Salar Muhammad Amin who survived death.

In a related development, witnesses said that the Iraqi police opened fire at a crowd of demonstrators in al-Samawah city to the south of Iraq and this resulted in killing one demonstrator at least and injuring many others.

The incident took place when 2,000 unemployed Iraqis were demonstrating because they were not recruited in jobs in al-Samawah police.

Witnesses said that the protestors threw stones at the policemen before security men fired warning bullets in the air and opened their fire towards the demonstrators.
