Syrian delegation is in Baghdad today

Syrian security and diplomatic delegation will head to Baghdad today afternoon to pave the way for reopening the Syrian embassy in Iraq and to hold talks as to develop ties between two states, the foreign ministry announced on Monday.

The delegation is presided by ambassador, Mohammed Saied al-Bonni, who will hand a message from Foreign Minister Farouq al-Shara to his Iraqi counterpart Hoshiar Zibari over bilateral ties.

A statement said that the Syrian delegation is to "make preparations for reopening the Syrian embassy in Baghdad and holding talks with Iraqi officials over all that hinders bilateral ties development between the two sisterly countries in various domains."

Meantime, the Syrian-Iraqi joint cooperation and coordination to control the borders between the two states had achieved good results during the last period, Former Iraqi Premier Iyad Allawi said Monday, denying existence of any discords between Syria and Iraq.

Following his meeting with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak in Cairo, Allawi clarified that infiltration through borders among states is taking place in another borders like those between the United States and Mexico for instance, asserting the necessity to cooperate with Syria in order to control the borders with Iraq.

In a statement to press, Allawi said "The relations between Syria and Iraq will witness better development in the near future."
