Two inmates get royal pardon for educational achievements

Morocco's King Mohammed VI has granted royal pardon to two inmates serving life sentence in the prison of Kenitra (40 Km of Rabat) after they obtained several high education degrees.
The Moroccan TV channel 'TVM' reported Saturday that the two inmates worked with perseverance during the whole period of their incarceration to obtain university degrees.
Mohamed Farah, 41, obtained a baccalaureate in modern literature with honors, a degree in private law in 1997, a degree in Islamic studies and a third degree in the history of civilizations. He is now studying sociology.
The other inmate, Mahmoud Bellafkih, 46, obtained a baccalaureate in modern literature, a degree in Arab literature, a degree in private law, and a master in modern literature. He is now preparing to publish a book of poems.
Mohamed Abdenabaoui, director of the penitentiary and rehabilitation Administration, said in a statement to 'TVM' the two former detainees have proved that prisons are not a place of vengeance and punishment but an institution of reintegration and rehabilitation.
