Sanyoura is Lebanon's new prime minister

The expected scenario in Lebanon after the session of the parliament on Tuesday is a meeting between Speaker of the Parliament Nabih Berri and President Emil Lahoud who is expected to call for obligatory parliamentary elections before the end of next week.

During this meeting Fouad al-Sanyoura is expected to be elected at a great majority to for a new government. After that Sanyoura will propose a government formation to President Lahoud. Should Lahoud not accept the new government, Sanyoura will resign from being assigned to the post of the premier.

In statements he made to CNN on Sunday, Lahoud renewed his confirmation that he will not leave his post before the end of his term. He said "I will not resign and will remain until the end of my term of office. The former prime minister Rafiq al-Hariri also voted for me." He said that "an investigation committee was dispatched to Lebanon by the UN" to verify the Syrian withdrawal from Lebanon," noting that results will appear "within two weeks." He added "all I know is that all the Syrians had withdrawn together with their intelligence." Lahoud denied any Syrian responsibility for the acts of assassination taking place in Lebanon, holding extremists Islamists and Israel liable for these events.

According to observers, so far Berri received the support of the Hariri bloc ( 37 parlaiemntarians), Junblat ( 16 parliamentarians), Hizbullah ( 14 parliamentarians), al-Tahriri Wal Tanmeyah ( liberation and development) bloc of ( 15 parliamentarians), the National party ( 2 parliamentarians), the Baath party (1 parliamentarian ); the Naserite people's party )(1 parliamentarian), and parliamentarians from Aoun's allies in the Mount Lebanon and Zahle ( Michael al Murr, Aghoub Baqrodina, Elie Skaf and parliamentarians of the people's bloc).
