Libyan opposition conference wants Qathafi out
Libya, Politics, 6/27/2005

Some 300 Libyan opposition figures concluded on Sunday a conference in London on Saturday to discuss means of remove the Libyan leader Muammar al-Qathafi from authority.

This was amid the boycott to the conference of several other Libyan opposition trends which protested the nature of the political discussions of the conference and the limit of demands it had set. A Libyan opposition figure, member in the national front to rescue Libya, defended the objectives of the conference, stressing that the opposition has reached the conclusion that it is impossible to reach any progress in the field of reform as long as Qathafi is on top of the authority.

In addition to removing Qathafi and depriving him of his security and political authorities, the conference called for the formation of an interim government for one year with the task of creating a democratic and constitutional state where principles of freedom and the rule of the law govern.

During the first day of the conference, the conferees strongly criticized the US for normalizating relations with Libya, ignoring its violation of human rights practices at a time when pressure is made on several other countries under the pretext of violating human rights in it.
