24 Iraqis killed in two separate attacks in Musil

The American army said that some 16 persons were killed in a suicide bombing that targeted a base for the Iraqi army to the north of the country.

Other seven were injured in the attack which took place near Musil city. A spokesman for the American army expected the number of the explosion's victims will increase.

On the other hand, Iraqi military officials said that it seemed that one suicide bomber was wearing an explosive belt had detonated himself a short time after the explosion of a car near the base.

The attacks came after few hours of killing of six members of the Iraqi police in a suicide attack in a booby trapped car that targeted a police center in the center of Musil. Other 14 were injured in the explosion which also resulted in the collapse of part of the building.

Iraqi police sources said that the executor of the attack placed the explosives within a truck filled with melons and crossed a people's market and was able to reach a police center. Witnesses said that number of killings is increasing, while rescue workers continue inspection works amid the relics of the building.

Musil city witnessed a suicide attack on Saturday evening that resulted in killing four police members.

In Baghdad, gunmen assassinated the deputy police director of Baghdad, Col. Riad Abdul Karim, as he was heading for his office.

Five civilians were killed and other 7 injured when three mortars fell at a crowded cafe near al-Shulla ( flame) quarters, in the west of Baghdad.

Other 11 Iraqis were killed and other 20 injured in Samera to the north of Baghdad on Saturday following a booby trapped car explosion that targeted the house of an officer in the Iraqi police.
