Syrian women's role in the community highlighted in Spain
Syria, Culture, 6/25/2005
Head of the Syrian delegation to the Women in Business Forum held in the Spanish city of Granada said Friday "Syrian laws give women equal footing with men in work, government and official positions and in all walks of life."
In a lecture delivered at the Forum titled 'Syrian Arab Woman and Her Role in the Community', Sonia Khanji called for investment in Syria, particularly in the sectors that support the Syrian women's role in the Syrian community such as sector of tourism that provides women with job opportunities in tourist services, banking and travel agencies.
"Inherited habits and traditions prevailing in our community, particularly in the countryside, hinder women's development and efforts to reach decent level approved by the Syrian laws," Khanji added.
