People's Assembly approves political rights practice law
Egypt, Politics, 6/23/2005
The People's Assembly approved during a session yesterday under speaker Ahmed Fathi Sorour the provisions of a draft law on practicing political rights. The provisions stipulate establishing a higher committee for elections under the Justice Minister and the membership of three sitting judges and six non-partisan public figures, three of whom former judges.
Justice Minister Mahmoud Abul Leil said that the committee monitoring the elections will be administrative and not judicial, and involves public figures.
