UN Security Council deplores the assassination of Hawi

The UN Security Council on Wednesday strongly condemned "the terrorist attacks" that took place recently in Lebanon, especially the assassination of the former secretary general of the Lebanese communist party George Hawi.

It simultaneously welcomed the "credibility and fairness" of the parliamentary elections took place in recent weeks. A statement issued sumiltaneously and read by the chairman of the council for June, the French Jan Mark De La Sabliar said that the "council welcomes the Lebanese parliamentary elections which were held on May 29th until June 19, 2005" and ' commends the "fairness of voting and its credibility, as well as the Lebanese people who proved, through this operation, clinging to democracy, freedom and independence."
