Three companies compete for new fixed line licences in Morocco
Morocco, Business, 6/22/2005

Three companies are competing in the tender for new fixed line telephone licences in Morocco, said, in Rabat Monday, a communique of the Moroccan agency for telecommunications regulation (ANRT).

The candidates for the tender include MŽditelecom, Egypt's Orascom and Moroccan group Maroc Connect.

The operation concerns six licences: local nodes (two for each region), inter-urban (2 licences) and international (2 licences), said ANRT

On February 24th, the ANRT launched a tender for the awarding of new generation licences for establishment and operation of public telecom networks.

Currently, there are over 1.3 million subscribers to the land phone, according to figures of Maroc-Telecom, which runs the land phone system in Morocco.

This move is taken in continuation of the telecommunications liberalization in Morocco.
