A Saudi study to link Gulf states with train networks

Saudi Arabia intends to make a feasibility study to establish a network for railways at investments estimated at billions of dollars in order to interlink the Gulf Cooperation Council GCC member states.
The GCC assistant secretary general for economic affairs Muhammad al-Mazrou' said that Saudi Arabia volunteered to make the comprehensive study which is expected to be completed within 6 months, noting that the project might be useful in passengers and commodity transfer in the GCC six member states.
Two lines are expected to be built. The first is at a length of 1970 Km and extends from Kuwait to Saudi Arabia and Bahrain and then to Qatar via a bridge and then to the United Arab Emirates and Oman.
The second line of 1984 km extends from Kuwait to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates and ends in Oman with the installation of linkage lines for each Bahrain and Qatar. The cost of the project is estimated at USD 6 billion.
Saudi Arabia is planning to erect railway lines at a length of 1000 km, including a line at a length of 950 km linking Jeddah on the Red Sea to Riyadh and al-Damam port on the Arab Gulf. Saudi Arabia also wants to link the two cities of Mecca and al-Madina and to link the phosphate mines in the northern parts of the country to al-Jubeil city on the Arab Gulf.
