Moroccan PM holds talks with President Chirac

Visiting Moroccan Premier, Driss Jettou, held talks, in Paris Monday, with French President Jacques Chirac on bilateral relations and issues of joint interest.

The Moroccan official, who took part earlier in the international conference on micro-finance, will also hold talks with his French counterpart, Dominique de Villepin.

During his address to the international micro-credit conference that opened Monday in the French capital, Jettou said Moroccan micro-credit associations have issued, since their creation, over MAD 2 million of loans that benefited over 550,000 customers, 75 percent of whom were women.

The Moroccan official noted that public authorities have mobilized important means of funding and guarantees to develop micro-credits, underlining that a recent study showed the impact of this mechanism on poverty, revenue generation, and social integration in general.

President Chirac, who also addressed the opening of the conference, pointed out that micro-finance can play a crucial role in reducing poverty in the world. He added that the international community is committed to cutting by half world poverty by 2015.
