Rice's call on Syria to change its policy in the region

The US Secretary Of State, Condaleezza Rice, during her visit to Egypt called on Syria to seriously look at changes taking place in the region, noting that Washington was very clear over its concern towards the Syrian behavior.

Rice called on Damascus to halt its support for "organizations rejecting the Israeli- Palestinian peace operation." She also stressed the need of halting the infiltration operations from the Syrian lands to Iraq, and for Syria to fulfill all its obligations according to the UN Security Council resolution 1559 concerning Lebanon.

Rice's visit to Egypt comes in the course of her tour in the Middle East. Avisit she started in Israel and the Palestinian territories and then in Jordan to be followed by Saudi Arabia. In conclusion of her visit to Jordan, Rice announced that Washington supports the reform efforts there and that the kingdom is an example for reform to be followed in the region.
