American soldier, scores of Iraqis killed

The American army announced the killing of one of its soldier in a mortar explosion targeting his convoy in TelAfer city in the north of Iraq.
In Arbil, its governor Nouzad Hadi said that the total outcome of the victims of the booby trapped car which targeted on Monday morning a headquarters for training police men in the governorates increased to 13 men and 103 were reported as injured, all of them members of the traffic police. Other news reports quoted security and medical sources as saying that 20 persons were killed in this operation.
News reports in Arbil said that the city's hospitals were filled of injured people, and the governorate witnessed a state of horror and traffic jams because of the cars involvement in transporting the wounded to various hospitals and health centers.
Witnesses said the operation took place when one attacker in his booby trapped car rushed into a playground in which more than 200 soldiers gathered in the early hours yesterday for training.
In another development, the American army said that five Iraqi security men including four police men were killed while other 19 were injured in a booby trapped car explosion in Baghdad. A statement by the army said that a clash took place first between one American military vehicle and gunmen near a police center of al-Bayya area to the south of Baghdad.
According to the American version, the gunmen detonated a booby trapped car when the police interfered and returned the fire sources, and this resulted in more killings in their lines.
Meantime, the Iraqi defense ministry stressed that five gunmen who took part in the attacks were detained.
These developments came while the American forces continue their plenary military operations in al-Anbar governorate to the west of Baghdad and the areas surrounding al-Qaem near the Syrian borders.
