Jordanian prime minister seeks government reshuffle
Jordan, Politics, 6/20/2005
The Jordanian prime minister Adnan Badran started his consultations to make a ministerial reshuffle on his government following the resignation of the minister of finance Basem Awadallah.
This came as an attempt from Badran to meet the desire of certain members of the parliament who threatened to cast non confidence in his government if he does not dismantle the economic team and take into account geographical considerations while forming the government.
Well-informed Jordanian sources expected that amendment to include removing five or six ministers from the government including ministers in the economic team following the resignation of Awadallah.
The sources indicated that Badran started consultations with political figures, especially in the southern parts of the country, so as the ministerial team will be representative of all the kingdom's governorates.
The sources expected Badran to take into account the message addressed to him by King Abdullah following the resignation of Awasallah. The message called for choosing professionals in making the change.
The sources expected Badran to split some ministries after having been merged when the current government was made, noting that among the ministries to be included in that is the ministry of political and parliamentary development, the ministry of education, higher education and culture and the official spokesman for the Jordanian government.
