Moroccan ambassador lecture on world peace
Morocco-Regional, Politics, 6/20/2005

Moroccan Ambassador in Syria, Abdelouahab Bellouki, said that strengthening peace prospects among nations could be established by mutual respect and the acceptance of other nations' cultural diversity and traditions on the basis of tolerance.

In a lecture delivered Sunday at al-Assad National Library in Damascus and organized by the Syrian Assembly for Public Relations, Ambassador Bllouki underscored the need for real dialogue between the East and West to reach positive interaction between cultures, civilizations and religions.

He said that the Western culture had been built on false picture of Islam and the Arabs, where Western consciousness have become carrier of advanced wrong standards they attribute to the Arabs in a typical way.

The ambassador added that the false picture drawn about the Arabs has been aggravated by the Western cinema, TV series and cartoons and even academic curriculum which market misleading and extremist ideas against the Arabs and Moslems.

He called for depending on the UN resolutions as the basis for human interaction and equality of all human beings away from chauvinism and racial; discrimination.

The lecture was attended by several Ambassadors accredited in Damascus as well as a host of intellectuals and writers. An open dialogue followed the lecture which stressed that peace and open dialogue constitute the only way for the salvage of humanity.
