Agreement on Iraqi constitutional committee reached

A detente took place in Iraq on Thursday after the Iraqi parliamentarian Jawad al Maliki, the second man in the Islamic Dawa ( call) party led by the Iraqi prime minister Ibrahim al-Jafaari. Jawad al-Malki said that it was " agreed in the committee of formulating the Iraqi constitution to increase number of the Sunni Arab members in the committee from two members to 25 members, among whom 15 members will be permanent while the other ten are consultants.
Thereby, the constitution's formulation committee includes by now 76 members. In addition to the Arab Sunni members there are 28 members of the Shiite united Iraqi coalition, 15 members from the Kurdistani alliance and 8 from the list of the Interim former Iraqi prime minister Eyad Allawi.
Saleh al-Mutlaq, of the Iraqi national dialogue said that the Sunni trend will work as from now to choose members and the ten consultants in the committee Meantime, the UN secretary general Kofi Annan commended the agreement. he stressed in statements to journalists that the UN will enhance its team in charge of helping in the election operation in Iraq during the next political phases.
