Sudan, Local, 6/17/2005

The minister of the Interior Abdul Rahim Muhammad Hussein submitted his resignation to the Sudanese president Omar Hassan al-Bashir following the issuance of a report by the minister of justice on the collapse of a building at Rabat university hospital in Khartoum.

This came after the report, which is based on reports of a committee formed to investigate in the incident, that violations took place in the building code and this resulted in its collapse. The minister of justice confirmed in a report that the construction engineer made grave mistakes when he used only half of the construction materials needed on which the building was designed.

The report demanded the attorney general to take legal measures against the contractor and the consultation center of the ministry of the interior.

The building which is 7 mm to the east of Khartoum and is associated with Rabat university, one of the police establishments, collapsed on February 23 a short time before its inauguration and this resulted in injuring 12 workers.

The construction of the building cost 6 billion Sudanese Pounds ( $ 2.5 million). It contained equipments at a value of $ 2 million.
