Doha Summit condemns US unilateral procedures against Syria

The second summit of the G-77 countries meeting in Doha, Qatar, on Thursday denounced the unilateral sanction on Syria and called upon the United States of America to end the Syria Accountability Act, and to resort instead to the language of dialogue between the two states on basis of mutual respect and interests.
The summit of the south countries has concluded its activities today with the issuing of a declaration and a work plan in this respect. The document emphasized the need to realize the just, durable and comprehensive peace in the Middle East in accordance to the UN Security Council resolutions, the "land for peace" formula and the Arab Peace Initiative.
It stressed the need of Israel's full withdrawal from all occupied Arab territories until June 4th border line, and the Palestinian people's right to build their own state with Jerusalem as its capital.
The work plan also urged Israel to end violations of Lebanon's sovereignty that pose as a threat to the security situation and negatively affect Lebanon's economy.
The Doha declaration stressed respect of states sovereignty and non interference in its internal affairs, as well as settling disputes in a peaceful way, in addition to making use of international cooperation in settling international problems of economic, social, human and economic nature.
The summit underscored the increasing importance of deepening cooperation among the south countries and considering it as complementary to the north-south cooperation.
The final statement underlined the significance of all countries joining the World Trade Organization and removing all political obstacles preventing that.
Syria's Foreign Minister Farouq al-Sharaa thanked in a speech to the summit President Bashar al-Assad the "constructive positions," adopted by the conference, mainly its solidarity with Syria against "unilateral measures imposed by the United States of America due to a nonstop provocation from Israel."
"Policies of hegemony and wars as well occupation are of no use, and the policy of dialogue, international cooperation and peace are the wining choice for both the north and south," al-Sharaa said.
He pointed out at the 10th congress of the Baath Arab Socialist Party recommendations that underlined "sticking to the strategy of peace to protect Syria's national interests and to restore the Arab land and rights." He noted that development and investment need security and stability, and these two points can't be provided on the basis of policies imposed on us from outside.
"Fighting terror, poverty and occupation inside countries of the south can not be treated in light of an imposed war and a continuous occupation as well threats to expand this occupation either by Israel or by its big ally of Israel, " the FM said.
He noted that had wars imposed on the region in the last decades in Palestine, Iraq, Iran Kuwait, and Afghanistan been manipulated as to support programs of sustainable development or the permanent operations of reform in the Middle East; these risky phenomena would have been retreated in the south and these countries respect to the North has increased.
He depicted as "significant achievement in the time of difficult challenges," the gathering stressing on the peace strategy as well development and the North-South dialogue in addition to refusal of hegemonies and the UN charter manipulation as well flagrant interference in states internal affairs.
During a meeting with Prince Hamad Bin Khaklifa Al Thani of Qatar, al-Shara delivered him a letter from President Bashar al-Assad related to the recent development on the regional and international arenas.
Foreign minister also reviewed with Chairman of the Palestinian Authority Mahmoud Abbas situation on the Palestinian arena and stressed the importance enhancing the Palestinian unity in order to face the current challenges.
On the other hand the conference continued its activities today morning with the participation of minister al-Sharaa. "The most significant thing we have been witnessing since the end of the cold war is marginalizing the southern countries as well as widening the gap between the rich and poor countries," al-Sharaa said in a statement before the conference.
He underlined the importance of enhancing cooperation among southern countries first, then among northern and southern countries in order to heal that defect.
The minister asserted that development and investment need security and stability "and those can't be realized on the base of foreign suggested policies under the title of constructive chaos."
"We can't fight terrorism, poverty and unemployment inside southern countries with the existence of imposed wars, continuous occupation and threats of expanding it," he added.
