Ghassan Salameh: Legislative elections in Lebanon are a perpetuation of sectarianism
Lebanon, Politics, 6/16/2005
Commenting on the current legislative elections in Lebanon, former Lebanese minister of culture Ghassan Salameh said that these elections "constitute a consolidation for sectarianism the same as happened in Iraq." Indicating that the success attained by Michael Aoun is not that great and importance.
Salameh who refused recently to take part in the government of Najib Miqati because of his professional obligations in France, said that the current elections in Lebanon are not representative, rather a distortion of the electoral practice and for democracy, and that the country is under a bad law.
Salameh said that the sects in Lebanon constitute blocs but without democratic rivalry, the same the Kurds did in Iraq. He expressed his regret that "the (Lebanese) Caricaturist sectarian regime moved to Iraq."
