Immigration requires comprehensive approach, Dutch official
Morocco-Netherlands, Politics, 6/15/2005
The complex nature of immigration requires a comprehensive approach, affirmed, Monday, visiting Dutch Minister of Immigration and Integration, Rita Verdonk at a meeting with officials in the Moroccan Interior Ministry.
The two parties said the approach must take account of the social and cultural aspects of Moroccan immigrants and the means to ensure a smooth integration. They also highlighted the importance to preserve the rights of the Moroccan community settled in the Netherlands.
Talks underlined the need to accompany this approach with security measures aimed at countering illegal immigration webs.
The Dutch Minister agreed with Moroccan officials to reinforce cooperation in the identification and repatriation of Moroccans who live illegally in the Netherlands.
Morocco and Holland have agreed to set up a joint commission to solve the problems that Moroccans encounter in the Netherlands, especially with regard to integration.
Verdonk evoked, on the other hand, with Minister of Islamic Affairs, Ahmed Toufiq, the organization of training sessions for imams (Moslem scholars) living in Holland. Rita Verdonk, who started Sunday a four-day working visit to Morocco, is expected on Tuesday in the eastern town of Berkane to hold debates with feminist associations operating in the field of migration.
