Washington satisfied with the Lebanese elections
Lebanon-USA, Politics, 6/14/2005

In the first foreign reaction to the Lebanese elections, the US expressed satisfaction over these results. The spokesman for the White House Scott McClellan said in general, people consider that the elections are organized in a good way with observers.

The US spokesman repeated what he considered fears of Damascus's interference in these elections. He said that this means Syria's need to stop interfering in the Lebanese internal affairs.."we are actually concerned over the existence of members of the Syrian intelligence in Lebanon. We have announced a clear position last week and I do think that the whole international community share us this very position."

For its part, the European Union mission to monitor the elections commended in a statement the process of the election process which it said "had passed smoothly, but simultaneously indicated the attempts made to buy votes and problems in distributing voter cards."
