Aoun achieves victories in the Mount area, looks forward to the north
Lebanon, Politics, 6/14/2005

The trend led by the former leader of the Lebanese army, Michael Aoun, emerged as the most important Christian political force in the country. This was revealed after the results of the third phase of the parliamentary elections which took place on Sunday in the Mount of Lebanon and the Bekaa areas.

The leader of the free national trend, Michael Aoun, and his allies, got 21 out of 58 seats in the areas of the Mount of Lebanon and the Bekaa. This is part of the total number of the Lebanese parliament's 128 seats.

The most important victory for the rising Lebanese leader was in the circles of the governorate of the Mount Lebanon where his list harvested 15 seats out of 16 in the two circles of Jbeil and Keserwan, against his loss of all 11 seats in Aley- Baabda and the all 8 seats of al-Shouf area in favor of the Druze leader Walid Junblat and his allies in Hizbullah and the dissolved Lebanese forces led by Samir Jaajaa and the Hariri trend.

According to the results read by the minister of the Interior Hassan al-Sabe' in a press conference, Aoun and his allies achieved another victory in the Christian circle of Zahle in the Bekaa by winning 6 seats while one Catholic candidate from the rival list which is supported by the Hariri trend won the remaining 7th seat.
