Somali government starts its return from exile
Somalia, Politics, 6/14/2005
The Somali government started on Monday the trip of return back to the country after its formation in Kenya nine months ago. This was at a time in which the African Union's peace keeping forces are preparing to be deployed there in order to restore back security.
The government of the Somali president Abdullah Youssef expressed fear of continued security unrest with the non existence of foreign forces to keep peace. It warned against the possibility of the objection of armed militias to the work of the government and preventing the ministers and their employees from working in safety.
The interim Somali parliament held on Sunday its last sessions in Kenya as several ministers took their constitutional oaths before returning back to practice their work missions from Somalia.
Officials said that the parliament started a vacation and will resume its sessions after two months in Somalia which has been in a state of chaos since 14 years.
For its part, the government commission for the development of the countries of east Africa called on the UN to lift the weapons embargo imposed on Somalia so as to enable the African Union forces to deploy there.
The commission which is known in short as "IGAD" announced that the Union's forces are ready for deployment, but was prevented from that because of the lack of finance and weapons embargo imposed by the UN.
The Somali government has repeatedly postponed the return back plans because of the lack of security in the country which is still divided into sectors ruled by warring warlords.
The southern regions witnessed more acts of unrest last week. More than 13 persons were killed or injured in bloody confrontations warning of big obstacles before the returning back government.
