Egyptian companies to end 2nd phase of Arab gas line ahead of schedule
Egypt-Regional, Economics, 6/11/2005
In an unprecedented achievement in implementing mega projects, the consortium of Egyptian government companies, entrusted with developing the second phase of an Arab natural gas line, has promised to finish the job one year ahead of schedule, consortium sources said.
Final preparations are under way to perform hydrostatic tests for the first 200-km of the 394-km line, from Aqaba in southern Jordan to Rahaba on Jordan-Syria borders in the north, the sources added.
The tests are a sign that work at the project is about to be completed, while the consortium still has seven-month period, according to the related contracts, to do the job.
The equipment allocations required for the project totaled $ 165 million.
The Egyptian consortium, East Gas Egyptian Company, has finalized 85 per cent of the basic works of the project, the sources said.
The consortium, consists of five Egyptian companies; namely the Natural gas Holding Company, The Egyptian Natural Gas Company (GASCO), Enppi and petrojet.
It was awarded the tender to undertake the second phase of the project under a B.O.T (Build - Operate - Transfer) system.
