Spain condemns Moroccan human smuggler to six years in jail
Morocco-Spain, Local, 6/11/2005
A Spanish court sentenced a Moroccan citizen to 6 years in jail, on charges of smuggling 34 illegal emigrants into the Spanish territory in 2004.
A.E.A, 25, was caught, on September 12, 2004, piloting a dinghy with the capacity of transporting only a maximum of 12 people, instead of the 34 that were onboard.
In 2004, Morocco succeeded to abort over 26,000 attempts of illegal emigration. Some 423 human smuggling networks were dismantled in the same year.
Each year thousands of illegal immigrants, including Moroccan and sub-Saharans use Morocco as a transit to creep into the Europe via the Mediterranean, or into the Canary Islands.
