Washington freezes assets of a Syrian company accused of providing weapons to Saddam Hussein's regime
Syria-USA, Politics, 6/10/2005

The administration of the US President George W. Bush on Thursday ordered freezing the assets of a Syrian company and of its officials. Washington says they provided weapons to the Iraqi President Saddam Hussein in violation of sanctions that used to be imposed on Iraq by the UN.

The US treasury department froze the assets of "SES International Corp" which has Damascus as a headquarters with its owner Zuheir Shalish and its owner Asef Shalish.

The US treasury department explained that this company and its owner and director imported military products from several countries under the pretext they are going to Syria while Iraq was its final destination. This was in deals finalized on behalf of the former Iraqi regime and many of its leaders including Ode Saddam Hussein and Saddam's secretary Abd Hamid Hammoud al-Takriti.

The ministry added that according to available information for the American government, Zuheir was involved in efforts to help Abd Hamid Hammoud al-Takriti to flee from Iraq during the war, noting that there was a belief that there, he proposed to help Qusai Saddam Hussein to leave Iraq.
