Lebanese forces announce candidates
Lebanon, Politics, 6/9/2005
In the course of preparations for the third and fourth round of the Lebanese parliamentary elections, Streida Jaajaa, wife of the chairman of the banned Lebanese forces Samir Jaajaa who has been in jail since 11 years, announced nominating herself for one of the north of Lebanon areas, in addition to announcing other 7 candidates for the elections.
Jaajaa's nomination of herself for Bsherri area of north Lebanon together with the others for the circles of the north, the Bekaa and the mount of Lebanon came in the course of united election lists formed by al-Mustaqbal trend which supports al-Hariri, together with the Christian opposition rallied under patriarch Nasrullah Sfeir and the Socialist Progressive party led by the Druze leader Walid Junblat.
Jaajaa's wife asked her supporters to elect the whole list of the opposition coalition because it will perpetuate "national reconciliation." The list does not include candidates for the Free National trend led by Michael Aoun, standing against Syria. Aoun returned back to Lebanon in May following 15 years he had spent in his exile in Paris.
In the third phase of the elections which are held next Sunday in the Bekaa and the mount of Lebanon, Aoun held an alliance with the Druze leader Talal Arsalan, the supporter of Syria and traditional rival of Junblat. Aoun's trend also nominated Mrs. Gelbert Zweein for Keserwan circle of the mount of Lebanon.
The fourth phase of the elections will be next Sunday in the north region.
