Baath congress recommends establishment of observatory for the national economy

Interpositions during the economic committee's meeting to the Baath party congress today concentrated on the necessity of forming a national economic observatory.

Deliberations which headed by Prime Minister Naji Otari said this should be made by the contribution of economic experts to follow up developments of the national economy, identify places of defects to offer solutions for them in addition to deal with reasons that led to decreasing income in the country.

Speakers also touched upon studying reasons of brain drain and capital movements outside Syria as well as weak points within the Syrian economy particularly exportation in addition to thinking about finding a substitution of oil sources either by increasing investments and tourism or investing, rehabilitating and training human sources.

"Syria's economy is of revenue aspect that depends on raw material while we need to lift up its level and enhance capacity of economic and industrial competition to increase income," a SANA reporter quoted some interjection during the congress as saying.

Interpositions demanded to free interests on money, activating financial policies, adopting a just tax system for all society sections, supporting media in the country and developing it, focusing on higher education and scientific research, guiding mass of medical industry and stressing on observation as well as realizing criteria.

Some conferees wondered about lack of medical centers of special quality and developing academic scientific research particularly in domains of medicine and practical sides of higher education.

In the organizational committee headed by Ghiath Barakat, interjections underlined necessity of focusing on human values and moral in the party as well as work to deepen sharing concept inside the family and society and activating role of professional unions and public organizations.

They also demanded to boost situation of Syrian families and handicapped, improve woman position in countryside and open the way of diploma before all students, encouraging university teachers to perform scientific research in order to make universities as research centers as well as establishing new universities.
