Syria is to establish a media higher council
Syria, Politics, 6/8/2005
"Syria is studying prospects of establishing a new media mechanism and giving room for party pluralism," Spokesperson for the Baath 10th Congress, Minister of Expatriates Buthaina Shaaban said Tuesday.
In a press conference, the minister said the congress's political committee has discussed the establishment of a media higher council, pointing at the same time to the issue of the party plurality.
She added that conferees stressed the need of these two steps "to fortify the internal situation as well as boost national unity." She added that interpositions in the Economic Committee's meetings concentrated on combating irrational spending and corruption, adopting equal opportunities and giving priority to the well qualified.
Shaaban added that interpositions in the Organizinzational Committee underlined the need for "reformulating the popular organizations and unions as well as reconsidering the party's internal system and developing it to match the current situation and the international changes over this stage.
