Tunis increases Benzene price to reduce deficiency in energy budget

The Tunisian government increased the price of Benzene at a rate of 5% to reduce the deficient in the energy budget following the increase in international prices.

Tunisian officials said that the price of PB free benzene increased to 0.9 Tunisian Dinar( (0.694 USD) for one liter from 0.860 Dinars. Also the price of super benzene increased at 4.9% to 0.870 Dinar for one liter.

The officials added that price of imported oil increased in recent months over the average price expected by the government and reached USD 37 for one barrel. A matter which increases the deficit in the energy budget and the burden of supporting energy prices.

In the budget of this year, the Tunisian government allocated 250 million Dinars to support the local oil prices. The government support aims at enhancing the potentials of the economy.

The recent increase started by the beginning of the week thereby benzene prices increased at more than 16% in the last 13 months.

Tunis had recently given foreign companies contracts for oil exploration with the aim to increase the country's oil production.

In recent years, Tunis witnessed gradual recession in its oil production because of the gradually deteriorated oil fields. Tunis's oil reserves reached 308 million barrels and its daily production is 81,000 barrels.
