Lahoud renews Lebanese government cooperation with the International Investigation Committee
Lebanon-UN, Politics, 6/4/2005
Lebanese government is ready to put all the state abilities at service of the International Investigation Committee to probe into the assassination of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafiq al-Hariri, Lebanese President Emile Lahoud stressed Friday.
Receiving Commissioner of the UN International Investigation Committee Detlev Mehlis, Lahoud said that the involved security and judicial bodies have put all needed capabilities to help the committee carrying out its mission and ensure protection for it.
Lahoud voiced hope that the committee will continue investigations into assassination of the Lebanese journalist Samir Qasir saying " Assassination of Qasir is targeting security and stability in the region and comes within the framework of a clear scheme aiming at turning Lebanon back to fear, panic and terror atmospheres."
For his part, Mehlis emphasized that he neutrally would accomplish his task and work hard to divulge the circumstances of the Hariri assassination in line with implementation of the UN Security Council resolution in this regard.
