LE 263 million contract for Northern Cairo power plant
Egypt-Netherlands, Economics, 6/3/2005

The Egyptian government and a Dutch firm signed a LE263 million contract yesterday for providing the Northern Cairo power plant with boilers.

The annual output of the giant plant is 1,500 megawatts and it will be built and equipped at a total cost of LE677 billion.

Following the signing ceremony, which was attended by the Dutch ambassador to Egypt, Electricity and Energy Minister Hassan Younis said that the first phase of the Northern Cairo power plant, which is steam operated would be completed by the end of this month.

Younis reported that the project was progressing well and would meet the timetables set to match the rising consumption of electricity.

The European Bank for Investment and the OAPEC Fund for Development are financially supporting the project implementation.

A similar scheme is being implemented in Nubaria to generate 1.500 megawatts.

Yesterday's contract is the last for the Northern Cairo electricity plant.
