Jewish culture enriches Moroccan patrimony, meeting

Moroccan Jews' culture has enriched Moroccan patrimony, said participants in a meeting held in Tetouan (Northern Morocco) Thursday.
Themed "Moroccan Andalou music and the Moroccan Jewish musicians," the meeting featured four exposŽs that highlighted Moroccan Jews contribution to the Moroccan cultural legacy notably in the Andalou music, in which they were very talented.
Participants stressed the need to revive the Moroccan Jewish patrimony that portraits the presence of thousands of Jews in the kingdom and their co-existence with their fellow Moroccans.
Andre Azoulay, Advisor to the Moroccan King, said the value of the meeting lies in raising awareness to the importance of the Moroccan Jewish patrimony.
He noted the meeting reflects a will to integrate this component of national patrimony in the Moroccan history known for its richness, diversity and authenticity. In addition to music played by the Institut de Tetouan orchestra, the meeting also featured a documentary on some aspects of Moroccan Jews life in Tetouan's Mellah neighbourhood.
