16 persons killed in tribal revenge incidents in Yemen

Yemeni sources stressed that 16 persons were killed and other 37 injured in tribal clashes that took place in Saadah governorate to the north west of Yemen during the few past days, as part of revenge taking.

The clashes took place in three different areas in Menya province, 80 km to the west of Saadah city.

Nine were killed and other 28 injured in clashes took place on Tuesday and Wednesday between gunmen from al-Batin tribe and Ayash tribe over an old tribal revenge case.

In another area of Menya directorate, clashes took place between al-Katheir and al-Muhammad resulted in killing four persons and wounding 6 from the two sides. One person was killed and another injured in clashes between gunmen between Tareq and Ameer tribes.

The blowing up of armed revenge conflicts between these tribes came under continued tension in several areas of Saadah governorate.

The police and army forces continued cordoning al-Naq'a tribal area close to the borders with Saudi Arabia, where the leader of the last armed rebellion Bader Eddine al-Houthi and Abdullah al-Ruzami the field leader of the rebellion together with scores of their followers are hiding.

Tribal conflicts in Yemen have been frequent, as weapons are abundant at a large scale and at a rate of 3 weapon pieces to each citizen. According to almost official estimates, such confrontations cause 1500 victims, annually.
