Algeria, Local, 6/1/2005
Algerian press sources said that two soldiers were killed and five others injured in an ambush implanted for their convoy in Bumerdas province to the east of Algeria.
The Algerian Liberty daily said that members of al-Salafeyah group for fighting and the call, linked to al-Qaida organization are responsible for the implanted ambush.
Two members were also killed suspected to be members of the armed Islamic group during clashes with the security forces near al-Shalaf to the south west of the capital Algiers.
The acts of violence attributed to armed Islamists witnessed an increase in May and resulted in killing 62 persons, including 26 security member.
The escalation of al-Salafeyah group for call and fighting and the armed Islamic group escalation of their attacks came in an attempt to obstruct the general pardon which is expected to be set for referendum later this year.
The plan aims at ending the continued acts of violence continued since one decade and resulted in killing more than 200,000 and inflicted material losses estimated at USD 30 billion.
