Sfeir regrets the low turnout of the Lebanese elections
Lebanon, Politics, 6/1/2005

In Beirut, the Maronite Patriarch Nasrullah Sfeir considered that the increase of the rate of boycot to the elections in Beirut is because of the voters regrets over the "winning of the election by unopposed candidates and the abstention of important figures from nominating themselves."

Sfeir questioned in press statements: "are there grave consequences more than that the average rate of voting is reduced to 27%, and to reach in certain Christian areas to 10% and 5%?"

Sfeir also renewed his criticism for the current elections law which was drawn under the Syrian presence, considering that this law does not ensure fair representation for the Christians.
