Lebanon: no stability without peace in Middle East
Lebanon-Regional, Politics, 6/1/2005
Lebanese Foreign Minister Mahmoud Hammoud said Tuesday that prosperity, stability and security will not be achieved in the Middle East without the prevalence of the just and comprehensive peace in the region.
"European partners should realize that the basic problem which hinders the region progress is the Middle East question," Lebanese National News Agency quoted Hammoud as telling the 7th ministerial Conference of the Euro-Med countries in Luxemburg.
He stressed the Arab states' commitment to the Arab peace initiative adopted in Beirut Summit, calling on the Europeans to help in implementing it and indicating that Lebanon gives the priority to boost his ties with the EU.
Meanwhile, Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament Nabih Berri called for boosting dialogue and national unity among the Lebanese.
"There are attempts to turn over al-Taif Accord, the matter that calls for a serious and historic stance by those who adhere to this Accord which enhanced the national unity," Berri said in a statement in Beirut.
He saw that any trouble in the relation among Lebanese would draw more international intervention in the Lebanese internal affairs.
