Chile's senate speaker reiterates support to Moroccan territorial integrity
Morocco-Chile, Politics, 5/31/2005
Chile's Senate speaker, Sergio Romero reiterated, in Rabat Monday, his country's support to the efforts made by the kingdom to perfect its territorial integrity.
Visiting Sergio Romero noted at a meeting with Speaker of the Moroccan Chamber of Advisors (Senate), Mustapha Oukacha, that Chile is convinced of the legitimacy of Morocco's right to preserve its territorial integrity.
Chile has never recognized the phantom Sahrawi Republic "SADR," a puppet state proclaimed by the Algeria-backed separatist movement "Polisario" on the Algerian soil.
Romero who started this Monday a four-day visit, said the kingdom is building a democratic and modernist project and developing an open and tolerant society thanks to the reforms ushered under the auspices of king Mohammed VI.
He said the sovereign's visit to Chile last December has given a new impetus to the relations between the two countries that are a bridge to bring together the Latin America and Arab-Muslim world.
The Chilean official said that South countries should defend their interests on the basis of a pragmatic approach so as to face globalisation challenges, stressing the strategic position of Morocco and Chile.
The Chilean official also discussed means to reinforce bilateral relations in various domains with representatives of the parliamentary groups in the Advisors chamber.
In a meeting with minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Mohamed Benaissa, Romero hailed the efforts made by the kingdom on the international scene and "Moroccan attachment to the international law."
