Speaker briefs US congress staffers on national issues
Morocco-USA, Politics, 5/31/2005
The speaker of Morocco's House of Representatives, Abdelwahed Radi briefed, in Rabat Monday, a visiting delegation of US congress staffers, on several issues of national interest.
A press release of the House said Radi expounded the specificities of the Moroccan parliamentary system, its voting mode, prerogatives and place among constitutional institutions, recalling the growing participation of woman in public decision-making.
The Moroccan official also touched on the issue of territorial integrity, recalling Morocco's actions to spur development in the Southern provinces (Sahara), and to integrate these provinces in the national economic fabric since their retrieval in 1975 from the Spanish rule under the Madrid Accords.
Evoking the reforms made by the country to achieve the political and economic upgrade, Radi recalled the constraints that weigh heavily on the national economy, especially at the social level, highlighting the National Initiative for Human Development unveiled, on May 18, by King Mohammed VI.
