Egypt-Palestine, Politics, 5/30/2005

Official Palestinian sources said that Egypt has managed to contain the crisis among Palestinian factions especially those which flared between Fatah and Hamas movements following the municipal elections held on May 5.

The two movements praised Egypt's efforts to contain the crisis and to abandon differences.

The Egyptian security delegation under Major General Mustafa Al Behairy yesterday wound up visit to Gaza following a meeting with a delegation from the Islamic Jihad under Mohamed al-Hindy.

Following the meeting, al-Hindy told reporters that the Egyptian delegation managed to contain the crisis and to reach a final agreement that puts an end to the state of tension between Fatah and Hamas.

He said that the meeting with the Egyptian delegation came in continuation of efforts to shore up the agreement reached by Hamas and Fatah movement adding he was satisfied with the progress secured by the delegation.

He said that the Palestinian people could remain unified and would keep in one trench against occupation. He said that "the Palestinian resistance maintained unity of the Palestinians for () years and managed to abort Zionist plots."

This came at the time when Palestinian sources expected that the Palestinian legislative elections scheduled for July would be adjourned.
