'Polisario' publicly threatens to resort to terror against Morocco
Morocco-Algeria, Politics, 5/30/2005

The separatist "Polisario" movement openly threatened to resort to terror acts against Morocco according to the menaces made public by Ali Salem Tamek and run Sunday by the Spanish "El Mondo" daily.

Renegade Ali Salem Tamek was lately excluded by his Ait Oussa tribe for advocating the separation of the Moroccan Southern provinces, known as the Sahara, from the rest of the Kingdom, as claimed by the separatist movement "Polisario."

The Ahl Tamek family denounced "the schemes" of their relative Ali Salem Tamek, whom they excluded "from family, tribe and national unity" and regard as "a renegade" for flouting their dignity and damaging the sacrifices they made "to preserve the unity and territorial integrity of the Kingdom."

Ali Salem Tamek also said he was for waging war on Morocco as ordered by "Polisario" chief Mohamed Abdelaziz, leader of the so-called and self-proclaimed Sahrawi republic that was set up in the morrow of the retrieval by Morocco of its southern provinces in 1975 in line with the Madrid accords.

Just some ten days ago, the Washington Times daily called for "applying the same treatment reserved to terrorist organisations to the 'Polisario' Front"

The American NGO "American Council for Moroccan prisoners"(detained in the "Polisario" camps of Tindouf, South-West Algeria) made a similar call to authorities in Washington to include "Polisario" on the list of terrorist organisations because of the terror threats made by the separatists leaders.

Observers, quoted by the London-based "Al Hayat," think there is a link between the events that disrupted lately the public order in the southern town of Laayoune and "a much larger operation" which is reportedly planned by "Polisario" and Algeria that has been backing the movement since 1975. The daily notes the coincidence between the Laayoune events and the new crisis the Algerian-Moroccan relations are going through following the postponement of the Maghreban summit that was scheduled last week in the Libyan capital city to bring together the leaders of Mauritania, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia and Libya.

A Maghreban diplomat, quoted by Al Hayat, said the message Algerian president sent lately to Mohamed Abdelaziz is the first by an Algerian leader on the occasion of the "Polisario" creation anniversary, observing the message coincides with the discourse on return to arms and with the manoeuvres conducted by "Polisario" behind the security wall. On the Laayoune events, Mohamed Rherrabi, governor of the town, said a minority of people is trying to exploit the democracy and freedom prevailing in the North African Kingdom to disseminate hate speech denoting separatist schemes.

At a press conference on Sunday, Governor Rherrabi told national and international reporters these people have infiltrated human rights organisations to send separatist messages exploiting some social problems.

They also used the current situation in the Maghreb region, namely the hostile Algerian stance towards Morocco regarding the Sahara issue and exploited an administrative procedure on transferring prisoners to disrupt public order by sit-ins and vandal acts, Rherrabi said.
