Fragments of a Syrian missile fell in the Turkish territories

The Turkish foreign ministry announced on Saturday it had summoned the Syrian ambassador to Turkey, Khaled Raad, asking for clarifications after a military verification and witnesses said that the fragments which were found in a field near the borders with Syria are for a missile fired from the Syrian territories.

In a statement, the ministry said that "Syria announced in reaction to that, that the incident was a result of a technical mistake that happened during a military exercise and expressed the Syrian government's regret over the non intentional incident which was a result of individual mistake, and apologized for the Turkish government."

The statement added that the Syrian authorities is taking measures to avoid such incidents.

The Turkish army had announced that the parts found in a field might be a result of a missile fired from Syria. In a statement, the Turkish army presidency said "the verification made by the military units in the region brings the conviction that these fragments might be part of a missile fired from Syria." Military men said that several people from the two villages of Goulbashi and Mahmoudlo in Hattai in Iskandaroun Sanjak notified the army that these fragments fell in their fields on Friday following an explosion in space.
